By Joe Kennefick

Ballinhassig        1-10
Kinsale            2-6

A remarkable turnaround saw Ballinhassig overturn an 11 point deficit and qualify for the final of the South East Under 21 A Football Championship. Played in Belgooly, Kinsale led 2-6 to 0-1 after 23 minutes and seemed to be cruising, but the introduction of Cork Minor Hurling Goal-keeper Patrick Collins was the catalyst for Ballinhassig’s improvement as he had a major influence in helping drag his side over the line.
Kinsale led 0-3 to 0-1 after eight minutes with three Gearóid Finn frees, which Diarmuid O’Sullivan had a similar score for Ballinhassig. Goals in the 11th. and 17th. minutes from Liam and Michael Cronin put Kinsale in the driving seat and when Finn (2) and Alan Gould both pointed they led 2-6 to 0-1 after 23 minutes.
However, with Collins pulling the strings, Ballinhassig steadied the ship and points from Colm Tyers and Rob Murphy left the half time score 2-6 to 0-3.
The second half was a disaster for Kinsale as they struggled to keep a rampant Ballinhassig at bay. Points from Sean Coleman and Michael Collins reduced the deficit before Michael Collins found thew net after a good move involving Tyers and his brother Patrick.
Diarmuid O’Sullivan (3) and Rob Murphy nhad points to tie up the game in the 54th. minute before Tyers swapped passes with Colin Reynolds and calmly put over the winning point to seal a most unlikely comeback.
